This guide provides a step-by-step explanation of how to create your Sei wallet using Compass and get started with your exploration of the Sei v2.
How Does the Compass Wallet Work?
Compass Wallet is currently available as a browser extension and mobile app that allows you to manage your assets on Sei securely and efficiently and connect with all the apps, NFT & gaming projects on both sides of Sei. To get started, download the Compass Wallet
Install the Compass Chrome/Brave extension on your desktop from the official store.
When you open the extension, you will be presented with five options: create a new wallet, import an existing Leap or import using MetaMask/EVM wallet, or import using a seed phrase/private key. If you want to create a completely new wallet, choose the option to create a new wallet.
Note: Import using a private key from MetaMask/EVM wallet into Compass Wallet to generate the same wallet address as your EVM wallet. Importing using the seed phrase will generate a different address than the one you have on MetaMask.
You will be shown a seed phrase. Make sure to save this phrase in a safe and secure location, as it is the only way to recover your wallet. Do not share this phrase with anyone. The seed phrase shown below is for demo purposes.
Add the missing words from the seed phrase you have noted down with you. We have added this extra step to ensure you write your secret recovery phase with yourself on a piece of paper. Note: Your wallet can only be recovered using your seed phrase.
Create a password to encrypt your wallet. Choose a strong password that you will remember.
6. Your wallet is now set up and ready to use. You can access it by clicking on the Compass wallet icon in your browser's toolbar. If you are using Chrome, the icon will be located in the top right corner of your browser. If you cannot find the icon, look for a "puzzle piece" icon and click on it to access a list of installed extensions. There, you should find Compass Wallet. Pin it to the toolbar for quick access.
Now, link your addresses to explore Sei v2. Read more about linking addresses here. Click on “Link Addresses” option to proceed to the Sei portal. Connect your wallet to Sei dApp.
Scroll down and complete the captcha mentioned under the “Addresses” section.
After completing the captcha, approve a transaction to complete your addresses linking transaction and go back to Compass Wallet to refresh and continue your Sei exploration 🔴 💨
